I check my account everyday and one evening I noticed I had a overdraft in pending(not yet applied to your account) So the next morning I went to the bank and deposited in $200 cash into the ATM. I checked that evening I had four overdraft charges applied to my account, only $100 went through and still no overdraft posted in my account. I called and they said their computer says it is overdrawn because pending item will post as of yesturday. Online never showed that. Still doesn't today. I said if my account showed me that I would have gone the day prior for the deposit. Looking today it still shows no over draft that day or the day after. Instead it shows four overdraft charges of which overdrafted me.

One sure way to beat the banks is to NOT BE OVERDRAWN - If you want to spend more money than you have in your account - get a credit card at 25%. Otherwise, don't spend what you don't have jerks!

Bank of America took five overdraft charges from my checking account and I was never overdrawn. They also took all the money from my savings account and will not refund my money but they say I still owe them money. It is bad enough that they stole from me but have the gaul to even try and get more money from me.

I feel that overdrafts are the most abused practice in the banking industry. I can't comment on US Bank but I've worked with two other banks which take part in deceptive practices on a regular basis. I had a horrible experience with one bank which was batching and processing withdrawals before deposits, even if the deposit took place hours before the debit transaction . They claimed it was a technical issue and wouldn't happen again. It never did happen to me again but my roommate experienced the exact same thing with his account weeks later.

The banks know that the majority of customers with overdraft fees aren't in a position to hire an attorney and probably are too busy earning back their money to even argue at all. The wealthy customers who get a fluke overdraft charge are quick to receive a refund, sometimes before it evens posts to their account.

I remember when fees were only $5 and I rarely heard of anyone getting charged. Now that the fee is around $25-$30 banks are using the fees as their primary source of income.
